Artist’s Statement
“My work has evolved from immersion in light/color patterns
inspired by a vast field of water to more distilled images, emerging
from within. The solo exhibit at Cornell University is titled “Enlightenment”
for this reason.
“For many years I painted watercolors and exhibited and
sold them widely. At heart they were fleeting impressions. By focusing
on oils the past decade, such ideas gestate over weeks and months
into much more of a statement.
“Although I have absorbed so much of my vision
from the lake and sky surrounding me, I’m delighted my paintings
are being comfortably situated anywhere the spirit of wide expanse
offers sanctuary and introspection.”
Richard Alther
