RICHARD ALTHER has been widely exhibiting his paintings for thirty years, primarily in Vermont at numerous galleries and New England regional events but also in many one-person shows in London, Boston, Dallas, Montreal, and Los Angeles. His work began in watercolor but for the past several years has been focused on large oil canvases, up to five by six feet. He started painting as a child and continued throughout his schooling at Cornell University and professional life in New York City. His oils ranged from abstract pallet knife expressions to portraiture. During his two-year residence in London he attended the Heatherley School of Fine Art, with adjunct instructors from the Royal Academy. Upon returning to Vermont he studied with Lawrence Goldsmith, AWS, of Fairfax, Vermont and Monhegan, Maine, as well as accepting a tenure at The Vermont Studio School, Johnson, Vermont. His residence and studio are perched upon a 25-acre island in Lake Champlain, two miles across from Rattlesnake Mountain and the Adirondack wilderness of Upper New York State.
